Frequently Asked Questions

What is DECA?

DECA is a business and leadership organization where students compete in events related to marketing, finance, hospitality, management, entrepreneurship, and other business areas.

Do I need business experience to join?

No. DECA is built for students to learn as they go. Many members join with no experience and learn through meetings, practice, and competitions.

What do members actually do?

Members attend meetings, choose competitive events, prepare for competition, participate in chapter events, and may attend conferences like Districts, State, and ICDC.

What is a roleplay?

A roleplay is an event where you get a business scenario, prepare for a short amount of time, and then present your solution to a judge. Roleplay competitors also take an exam.

What is a written event?

A written event is prepared before competition. You create a plan, proposal, or campaign, then present it to judges. Written events usually involve more long-term preparation.

What is Team Decision Making?

Team Decision Making, or TDM, is a two-person roleplay. Partners prep together and present one solution as a team.

Do I have to compete?

The chapter should decide the exact expectation, but DECA is mainly a competitive organization. Competition is one of the best ways to get the full experience.

How do I join?

Go to the Join page, join the Schoology page, follow the chapter updates, and come to the next meeting.

Who should I contact with questions?

Start with the officer team on the About page. Once officer groups are finalized, members can use that section to know who to contact first.

Still have questions?

Join the Schoology page or talk to an officer at the next meeting.
