FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
What is DECA?
DECA is a business and leadership organization where students compete in events related to marketing, finance, hospitality, management, entrepreneurship, and other business areas.
What is the application process like?
Prospective members submit a written application and take a sample Business Administration Core exam. Applicants with strong applications and test results are selected for the chapter roster.
What is professional selling?
Professional Selling is an individual DECA event where you prepare a sales presentation in advance based on that year’s topic. You present a product or service to a judge acting as a potential customer and explain how it meets their needs. Competitors also take a Marketing exam.
Do I need business experience to join?
No. DECA is built for students to learn as they go. Many members join with no experience and learn through meetings, practice, and competitions.
What do members actually do?
Members attend meetings, choose competitive events, prepare for competition, participate in chapter events, and may attend conferences like Districts, State, and ICDC.
What is a roleplay?
A roleplay is an event where you get a business scenario, prepare for a short amount of time, and then present your solution to a judge. Roleplay competitors also take an exam.
What is a written event?
A written event is prepared before competition. You create a plan, proposal, or campaign, then present it to judges. Written events usually involve more long-term preparation.
What is Team Decision Making?
Team Decision Making, or TDM, is a two-person roleplay. Partners prep together and present one solution as a team.
Do I have to compete?
Yes, you must compete in either a roleplay or written event.
How do I join?
Applications for the 2026–2027 season are closed, and the roster is finalized. We hope to see you next year!
